How can the agricultural sector meet increasing demands regarding climate, nature, and food security without sacrificing competitiveness and profitability? In this session, you will gain insights into Danish and Swedish perspectives on the strategic choices shaping the future of food production.
Lisbeth Henricksen from SEGES describes the extensive transformation currently underway in Danish agriculture. Drawing on initiatives such as the “green tripartite agreement,” new climate requirements, and shifts in land use, she illustrates how farmers, advisors, and other stakeholders are working to reconcile food production with reduced emissions, improved water quality, and enhanced biodiversity.
Hans Ramel, a farmer and Second Vice Chair of the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF), offers a Swedish and Nordic perspective on how high ambitions for sustainability, animal welfare, and food security can go hand in hand with competitive and profitable production. He also highlights the experiences that Nordic countries can share with one another, as well as the issues that require a unified approach at the European level.
Additional participants will join the session. The program concludes with a panel discussion in which the speakers explore how innovation, policy instruments, and collaboration can strengthen the role of Nordic agriculture in the green transition.
